It was a cool morning in district two and Braxton had left early that morning to avoid Octavia's ranting about breakfast being some important part of the day. He was content with the piece of toast he had stolen off his mother's plate on the way out the door. Now he was standing in front to the Thorn residence, knocking on the door and hollering, "Mel! School! Come on!" He banged on the door loudly and then turned to lean against the wall and wait for his girlfriend.

Great. School. Melanie was far from excited about having to be up at all, much less that Braxton had shown up early to drag her away. Still, her boyfriend was there and she couldn't help but be a little bit excited as she ran the brush through her hair one last time before walking out the door. "Morning!" She greated, making her way I over to Braxton. Planting a quick kiss on his cheek, Melanie adjusted the strap on her bag before looking in the vague direction of the school and rolling her eyes. "How can you be up so early?"

Braxton rolled his eyes as she kissed his cheek and looked down the street as if hiding from someone, "Are you serious?" As if on cue, a dark haired fourteen year old rounded the corner running at them at full speed. Braxton grabbed Melanie's wrist and took off, trying to outrun his youngest sister, Octavia, "She'll catch us if you don't run! Hurry!" He laughed, letting go and Melanie's arm because she would be able to run faster without his hindrance.
He pulled ahead of her and rounded a corner to almost immediately duck into an alley way where Octavia may not find them. but there was no way to be sure, of course. Making sure Melanie, knew where he was, he grabbed her and tugged her into the shady alley after him and held her against the wall. Despite the fact that he was meant to be hiding from his sister's nagging, he was distracted by Melanie's hair. The smell of her shampoo made him leaned forward and kiss the top of her head.

Melanie resisted the urge to laugh as Braxton pushed her against the wall. Whatever tangent Tav was on now had to be pretty bad if they were literally playing hide and seek on the way to school. "What did you do this time, skip breakfast or cheat in training?" She asked, but not out loud. Times like these her useless power was a perk. In order to use her telepathy, she laced her fingers with his and smiled up at Braxton. "Either way, I think she's gone now."

At first, the talking in his brain thing had bothered Braxton. It was weird, hearing her voice and not actually seeing her speak, but now it was as normal to him as breathing. He grinned and watched as Octavia rounded the corner toward the school. They were safe, "Does it matter what I did to start it?" He asked, leaning forward to plant a kiss on her mouth. He didn't want to leave the cool, comfort of the alley just yet. He briefly thought about skipping school and finding a good hiding place where the peace keepers wouldn't find them, but the idea was quickly dismissed.

Smirking, Melanie leaned up to kiss him again befoe pulling back and looking down the alley. "Not really, but I'm sure I'll hear all about it at lunch." Her tone was light and teasing even if it was the truth. When the siblings invaded their table, neither of them were going to ever hear the end of it. "Unless we're skipping school today, and I doubt your up for that. You have to train some time right?" Giving him a small wink, she leaned back against the wall and tried to keep the sarcasm out of her voice. It wasn't that she disliked the idea of the games or the careers, but why did it have to be her boyfriend? He was going to win of course, and she had never said it to his face, but she was secretly worried that he wouldn't come home when he finally got the chance to go.

Braxton made a face and nodded slowly before pushing off the wall and walking back out to the road, "Right. Training." He loved to train. He loved to be strong. But something about lifting weights and swinging swords every day seemed excessive. He could definitely use a day to eat one of Octavia's cakes and ignore the rest of District 2. Too bad his trainer would never allow that shit, "Come on, I can't be late or the trainer will skin me alive and then what good am I to our dear district?" He laughed, only partly serious.

"I dunno, it could be interesting. First skinless tribute to compete and win." Melanie teased, stepping away from him for a moment as she crossed the road. Why did she even have to go to this stupid school? Brax and Tavie, their sister Ang...she understood them. They needed to train and be smart. She was going to spend her life playing with rocks and she already knew how to do that, so why bother? Besides, the training did her no good. There was no way in hell Melanie was volunteering, like ever, and someone else was bound to take her place if her name was called. It was just the way things were in the career districts. "Who are you picking on today? Alex or Tav?" Her brother on the other hand, he enjoyed it almost too much. If he could find a way to use his power agressively, she had no doubt he'd be a contender.
