PERSONALITY ► Ryder is the kind of person who likes to see other people smile. He isn't shy and won't hesitate to make a self-deprecating joke for the sake of hilarity. He does what he can to make people forget their troubles or feel better in general, always being the joker. Even when he is feeling down, making other people laugh helps him to feel like he isn't alone.

Ryder hated being by himself. He will stay away from his house most of the time because of how lonely he can get when he has no one to laugh with. He friends are him favorite people int he world and he would never let anyone he knows or loves be hurt if he can help it.

POWER DESCRIPTION ► Ryder has the ability to fly. It's not propelled by anything in particular and, in fact, he didn't even know about the power until he was in his early teens when he fell off a tractor and was thankful he was able to catch himself in mid-air.

With the power of flight also comes an increased ability to repel the affects of low pressure environments. He can breathe as high as 5 miles off the ground. He can almost withstand the cold air at these levels.

One huge downfall is that the Capitol doesn't take kindly to people who can travel between districts with out their help. They keep a close eye on Ryder even though he has no intention of doing anything illegal. Another side effect is that he can become very tired if he were try flying to hours on end. He needs to stop and rest at least ever two hours or risk falling out of the sky. Finally, if he tries to take other people flying with him, they do not share his ability to withstand the low pressure or the cold so he can't go as high.

HANNAH MELANIE SAMUELSON ► Hannah is Ryder's mother and that is pretty much the only thing he knows about her. She died in childbirth.
TERRY GREYSON SAMUELSON ► Terry was a busy man, doing his best to make money for his only son to survive on. Ryder rarely saw his father.

HISTORY ► Ryder was mostly alone while he was growing up. If he was at his house, he always thought he would go crazy, so he found himself wandering the town if there was nothing else to do. During the harvest, he spent most of his time bugging other people while they worked. It's not that he is lazy or anything, just easily distracted.

When Ryder was born, his mother died in childbirth leaving his father heartbroken. In order to make ends meet, and drown his own anguish, Terry threw himself into his work in the fields and rarely returned to his marital home. This left his young child to be raised by the neighbors and, eventually, by himself. He hated seeing other people sad and lonely like he always felt and noticed that when he made bad jokes or teased himself people always seemed to feel a little bit better.

Ryder doesn't really worry about much. He does enough to keep himself out of trouble, especially since the Peacekeepers watch him so he won't leave the district. He isn't allowed to use him powers most of the time and, every now and then, can sneak away at night to fly among the stars.
